cloth diapering
Everything to start with washable diapers and their daily use.
You want to start cloth diapers, but you don’t know what to buy or how many to buy!?
Choose how often you want to wash your diapers and depending on the age of your child you can easily calculate the number of diapers you will need.
When baby is smaller, it is normal to change him more regularly, but the older he gets, the less changing will be necessary. Here is an average of the diapers you will use in a day, depending on the age of your child.
0-3 months = 10 – 12 diapers
3 – 10 months = 8 – 10 diapers
10 months and more = 6 – 7 diapers
Calculation: the quantity of diapers used in 1 day x desired washing frequency + 2 to 4 additional diapers (to have a few spare during washing/drying and for unforeseen events!).
For example, if your child is 4 months old and you would like to wash your diapers every 2 days, the calculation would be (10 diapers x 2 days) + 2 unforeseen events = 22 diapers
*If you realize that it is not enough or you want to space out the frequency of washing, you can always buy a few more later.
Just go to your city’s website or contact them, they can give you more information. Several cities in Quebec offer grants ranging from 50$ to 300$ so do not hesitate to inquire.

YES! The diapers can be put in the dryer, but it is recommended to dry them at low temperature. (it is very good for the elastics and the pul of your diaper to use the dryer at least once a month). For inserts the dryer helps to tighten the fibers well and prevent leaks.
*Only avoid handling diapers when they are still hot, at the risk of damaging the pul and the elastics. – Too high a drying temperature or “overdrying” could also damage them.

PLEASE NOTE: If you often swim in a pool with chlorine, it is advisable to reserve a few diapers for this purpose. Chlorine can wear out the elastic in your diapers more quickly.
Usually what you already use at home will do the job.
Two points to remember:
❎ Avoid baby detergents, as they are not concentrated enough to properly clean cloth diapers.
❎ Make sure your detergent does not contain fabric softener.
ARE YOU IN HARD WATER?
In the case of hard water, you will need to neutralize the minerals to prevent them from getting lodged in your diapers and ending up causing problems! Don’t worry, there’s nothing complicated.
